A Little Story

The Building

This building was constructed in 1928. It has only changed hands 4 times in all these years. It has been a café and bar, a tavern, and a

brothel, which was upstairs. It also had illegal gambling with a lookout on the roof as the stories go. Brooks was a station for the

southern pacific railway and in 1989 the depot was moved to the west of brooks. A post office was opened in 1871 and served about 135

people at the time. It remains today as an unincorporated town. On July 27, 2018, there was a fire displacing 3 families upstairs and

caused much destruction downstairs in the bar. It was vacant for some time until one of our local families bought the building and

remodeled it into the structure you see today.
